Mediumship is a form of communication with the spirit World. Throughout the history of Spiritualism, a special place has been occupied by the medium as an individual qualified in some special manner to form a link between the living and the dead.

A medium may claim to listen to and relate conversations with spirit voices; claim to go into a trance and speak without knowledge of what is being said; claim to allow a spirit to enter their body and speak through it; claim to relay messages from the spirits those who wish to contact them with the help of a physical tool, such as a writing instrument.
